IGCSE Maths Revision Plan
Twelve weeks, four phases, one error log. Adapt it to Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher entry without changing the structure.
Weeks 12 to 9
Triage and rebuild
Find and fix holes while class teaching is still running
- βSit one older past paper under timed conditions and mark it honestly
- βGroup every lost mark by syllabus topic, not by question number
- βRebuild the two weakest topics from notes, then redo those questions
- βStart a one-page error log: mistake, cause, correct method
Weeks 8 to 5
Full coverage
Touch every topic on your tier at least twice
- βRotate topics on a 3-day cycle: learn, practice, recall
- βForce closed-book recall of formulae and methods before opening notes
- βMix topics inside one sitting so you practise choosing methods, not just applying them
- βUpdate the error log after every marked set and revisit entries weekly
Weeks 4 to 2
Paper conditions
Convert knowledge into timed marks
- βSit one full past paper every two days at the same time of day as your exam
- βRecreate exam conditions: no phone, no pauses, official formulae sheet only
- βMark against the scheme, then re-attempt every lost mark 48 hours later
- βTrack scores by paper to confirm which tier target is realistic
Final week
Consolidate
Peak on exam day without burnout
- βOnly your error log and starred weak topics, no new material
- βOne light paper early in the week to keep rhythm, nothing the day before
- βPrepare equipment: calculator, ruler, protractor, compasses, two pens
- βProtect sleep; recall deteriorates faster from lost sleep than from lost study hours
The error log, in one example
| Date | Topic | Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| W6 Mon | Algebraic fractions | Added numerators without a common denominator | Multiply both top and bottom by the missing factor |
| W6 Wed | Trigonometry | Used sine where cosine was needed | Label sides first: opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse |
| W7 Fri | Probability trees | Multiplied instead of adding | Along branches multiply, across outcomes add |
Review the whole log every Sunday. Patterns emerge within two weeks, usually a handful of recurring causes rather than dozens of unrelated gaps.
Practice while you plan
If you are studying the Singapore MOE pathway today, the same four-phase plan works with ReLURN adaptive practice: it keeps an error log for every student automatically, and every question is hint-scaffolded so stuck moments turn into learning.
